Common email issues

BusinessWebsite Mailbox size warning

Your mailbox on the BusinessWebsite email server is now more than 80% full. So that you can continue to receive emails you need to remove some messages from your mailbox on the BusinessWebsite server.

This problem often happens if your using an 'imap' connection. In these cases, just deleting, or moving emails from your inbox normally fixes this. You should also reduce or remove emails from your 'sent', 'drafts', and 'trash' folders.

Note that there is not a limit on the number of emails, just on the total mailbox data size held on our server.

If you have other peoples email accounts forward to yours, the issue maybe with theirs. Checking your web-mail is often a good place to see where the problem is.

If this continues, please get in touch.

Email not sending or receiving

This normally only happens if your office has lost connection to the internet. Please check this is not the case first. Also some anti-virus software can sometimes cause problems. 'email connection to server interrupted' - often relates to an anti-virus issue.

Recipient not receiving your email

The most common caused is by entering the incorrect email address. Please double check carefully that you have the correct email address. You can use our email checker to check that an email address is valid, but it wont tell you if it was the correct one.

Security certificate warning

A common reason for this error to appear is if your PC has the incorrect time or date set.
Use our 'check time' page to check your PC time.

0x800ccc0e

This is a generic error message when a PC has not been able to send out emails. (ie. SMTP to our server). Please recheck your outgoing email settings; smtp server, smtp port, ssl, and authentication. Sometime anti-virus software may block outgoing email, try temporary disabling your anti-virus to see if this is causing the problem.

Server relay denied

Its likely that your not sending mail to our servers. Check your email settings; check you have the correct outgoing mail server, and that you have username and password set correctly.

The connection to the server was interrupted

This error message is often caused by virus checking software like Norton. 3rd pary software on your computer often intercept and relay your emails. If this software is unable to handle your email message, then it will usually fail while trying to send it to us, resulting in the above error message.

Large email attachments

The standard maximum size of an email attachment is currently around 10mb. When emails are transported server to server, each server will usually check the size of the attachment, so thus could potentially be blocked at your server, in between servers or the destination servers. Our servers are able to handle email attachments up to 16mb, though, if you are using squirrel web mail, there is a 3mb upload limit.

Banned server list

To defent against spam, emails received from some specific IP ranges are automattically banned. Our blacklist is basically places where nothing but spam email has been previously received.

If you think your server maybe banned; use our blacklist checker, which is a free online tool.

Current email server status

A quick automated ping to our email server has just been performed.
A ping to our pop3 and smtp servers was successful. See our server status for more information.
